Through The Kitchen Door operates a non-profit catering enterprise as part of its Earning While Learning™ professional training program. Earning While Learning™ is funded by the sale of exquisitely prepared and served food for public and private events. Trainees learn to create and serve fine, flavorful foods for receptions, benefits, luncheons, weddings, private cocktail and dinner parties and large corporate and community events.

The need for quality, part-time employment training, especially for mothers with young children, is satisfied by Earning While Learning’s™ flexible work schedules. Normal training hours are during school hours to minimize the need for child care and disruption of family time. Trainees earn $9 for their first 50 hours of apprenticeship/training and then receive raises for continued training. When trainees staff catered events on nights and weekends they are paid at least $15 per hour.

Through The Kitchen Door participates in numerous community events. This gives our Earning While Learning™ trainees, particularly our teenage trainees, opportunities to teach their new skills at public food demonstrations.

Catering clients include area professional associations, non-profit organizations; government offices, public school special events; corporations; law firms; art galleries; churches; and numerous individuals. We are happy to provide references on request.

We welcome your inquires about our catering menus and services.
